Battle Ground
About This Community
Battle Ground is a thriving community located in the exact center of Clark County and serving the nearby towns of Yacolt, Amboy, Hockinson, and La Center. Located only a stones throw from beautiful state and county parks, Battle Ground is also a short distance from scenic Lake Merwin and the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.
Named for a battle between Native Americans and early settlers that never happened, Battle Ground's rich history and surrounding natural beauty have contributed to a growing population that's more than tripled in just five years, increasing from 4,000 to 14,000 and spurring a building boom that includes the city's first cinema complex and motel, as well as a new city hall, fire department and public works buildings.
The creation of the annual Battle Ground Rose Float is an annual highlight. Work begins in March to produce the 100 percent handmade float, one of the last of its kind west of the Mississippi. This float competes in Portland's Grand Floral Rose Parade each June and has consistently won first place in its category, and is also the centerpiece of Battle Ground's Harvest Days Parade, held each year in mid-July.
