Penny production is stopping at the US Mint because production costs out way the value of the coin itself.
A penny costs nearly $0.04 to produce. It is stated that production will stop by 2026; however, Financial Institutions, including Riverview, are already seeing limitations and challenges in our ability to obtain pennies.
Due to these challenges, we are introducing branch limits, so everyone has continued access for as long as possible. These limits will allow those who use pennies in their normal course of business time to implement new processes.
